We have included frequently asked questions. If you don’t see your question, please get in touch. We are happy to help!
Can I take yoga teacher training just for me, even if I don’t want to teach?
Absolutely! Many of our students join training without the intention to teach. Here are a few reasons they’ve shared with us:
- “I always feel calmer after yoga and want to bring that feeling into my daily life.”
- “I suffer from anxiety and depression and want a way to support my mind and body to live a life I love.”
- “The only time my mind is quiet is during yoga. Can you help me find that peace outside the studio?”
- “Yoga helps me deal with aches and pains, and I want to know how to create that on my own.”
- “I wish my family could benefit from yoga, but they won’t attend a class.”
Yoga is a gift you first give to yourself. By understanding and holding space for yourself, you can then share this space with others. Holding a compassionate space for ourselves is one of the many benefits of living the Eight-Fold Path of yoga. Many of our students say that the most significant benefit is finding peace of mind to be with anything, anywhere in life.
Whether your dharma [purpose] is to share, teach, or live it, creating and cultivating this peaceful space will make a difference in your life and those around you.
How do I know I’m ready to become a teacher?
It’s natural to doubt yourself and your capabilities—part of being human. So, first and foremost, know that you are not alone in feeling this way. Self-doubt is something we all experience. Even the most seasoned teachers still get butterflies before they teach.
The most important requirement for becoming a yoga teacher is dedication to your practice and self-study. This is why our program is discovery-based. Through your practice, you will find your true and complete self. We also include individual mentorship and have a facilitator network to support you along the way.
How do I apply?
Click here to apply. We’ll follow up within 48 hours of receiving your application. To finalize your enrollment, we need to receive your individually designed payment plan and your first payment to hold your spot. Your payment plan must be completed one day before your last training day.
What style of yoga will I be learning?
At the Life of Wellness Institute, we teach through the lens of Viniyoga. You will learn to teach Yin, Vinyasa, Restorative, and Yoga Nidra while focusing on Viniyoga’s four key differentiators.
How experienced do I need to be in yoga?
We recommend having at least six months of yoga practice before enrolling in our teacher training program. This experience provides a basic foundation in primary yoga postures before you start learning how to teach. However, this is not a strict requirement. Each training day includes a movement practice, and we start gently with restorative yoga before progressing to more vigorous movements.
I have an injury/special condition—can I take this training?
Please consult your primary physician first and provide us with a written letter from your doctor stating that you can participate in the class. With your doctor’s permission and release, we welcome you to join.
Can I take training while pregnant?
Yes, many pregnant students have completed our training. We recommend that you first check with your doctor to discuss any contraindications you should adapt your practice for.
What are your teacher training cancellation and refund policies?
You can find our Tuition Policy in our Yoga Teacher Training Policies.
What are the graduation requirements?
You can find our Accreditation Policies in our Yoga Teacher Training Policies.
I took my 200-hour training with another yoga school. Can I take the Advanced 300-Hour Course?
Yes! We’ll discuss your existing certification and identify gaps that may require bridge training.
Is there a minimum age requirement for taking the training?
You must be at least 16 to enroll in the teacher training. If you are between 16 and 18, we require approval from the trainer and written consent from your legal guardian 30 days before the start of the training.
Are books and materials included in the price of the training?
Yes, all training manuals are included in your tuition. We require just two books to be purchased outside of what we provide. You can find this list with our recommended reading list. All books are available to view at our Airdrie Studio, just like your teacher.
How many students are enrolled in each training cohort?
Our class size is capped at 15 individuals to ensure personalized attention.
How much time should I expect to spend on 200-hour homework?
You should expect to spend between 4-6 hours a week on homework. The assignments are designed to reinforce the material covered in class and help you integrate what you learn into your practice and teaching. If you’re not planning on teaching after this course, you may choose not to complete all the homework assignments and take the course for non-credit. However, if you wish to receive your Certification, you must attend all sessions and complete all homework assignments.
What is the Yoga Alliance?
Yoga Alliance is an organization that was established in 1999 to create nationally recognized standards for yoga teachers and teacher training in the US. More and more yoga studios require their teachers to register with the Yoga Alliance at the 200-hour or 500-hour level. However, Yoga Alliance registration is not a legal requirement for teaching yoga. Currently, there are no legal certification requirements for being a yoga teacher. The Life of Wellness Training is approved at the Yoga Alliance 200-Hour and 300-Hour levels.
